Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic approach that understands the mind as a system made up of many different “parts,” each carrying its own thoughts, feelings, and roles. For example, some parts may act as protectors, while others carry hurt or shame from past experiences. Instead of trying to silence or get rid of these parts, IFS helps clients get to know them with curiosity and compassion. The ultimate goal is to create harmony within the system by strengthening the “Self”—the calm, wise, centered core of a person—so that all parts can feel understood, valued, and work together in balance. This process fosters deep healing, self-acceptance, and emotional regulation.
