What is nature based therapy and why is it beneficial?

Nature-based therapy takes counselling outside of the traditional office setting and into the healing environment of the outdoors. At Core Elements, we are fortunate to have 10 acres of trees, fields, and open skies, where clients can engage in therapy surrounded by the calming presence of animals, birds, and fresh air.

For many people, stepping out of an office and into nature immediately reduces stress and creates space for openness. Research shows that spending time outdoors can lower cortisol levels, improve mood, enhance focus, and increase a sense of well-being. When therapy is conducted in a natural setting, clients often feel more grounded, less anxious, and more connected to themselves and their surroundings.

Benefits of Nature-Based Therapy:
â€˘    Stress reduction and calm – The sights, sounds, and rhythms of nature naturally regulate the nervous system.
â€˘    Embodied awareness – Walking or sitting outdoors encourages mindfulness and deeper connection to body and breath.
â€˘    Greater openness – Clients often find it easier to share honestly when not confined to four walls.
â€˘    Connection with animals – Birds, horses, and other animals on our acreage offer gentle, intuitive interactions that enhance trust and emotional regulation.
â€˘    Creative perspective – Nature fosters reflection, insight, and a fresh view on challenges.

At Core Elements, nature-based therapy can be used for individuals, couples, families, and even groups. Whether it’s walking through the trees while processing emotions, working with animals to practice boundaries and trust, or simply being held by the quiet of the land, this approach provides a powerful alternative to office-based sessions.

In short: Our natural acreage allows clients to access therapy in a setting that feels expansive, restorative, and deeply human—supporting self-regulation, resilience, and authentic connection.
