The team serves individuals, couples, families and teams both in‑person and virtually across Lethbridge and all of Alberta . They also offer coaching services world wide.
Core Elements intentionally offers both counselling (therapy) and coaching because the two services meet different needs.
Counselling/therapy
• Therapy is a regulated health service delivered by registered professionals. Core Elements notes that psychologists must meet the standards of a governing body, complete a graduate degree and supervised practicums, maintain liability insurance and adhere to strict ethical codes .
• Counselling sessions address deeper issues such as premarital concerns, disconnection, conflict, affair recovery, communication, intimacy, life transitions and parenting differences . The process uses attachment theory and neuroscience to help partners “dive into the heart of your connection,” read each other’s cues and create a secure “couple bubble” .
• Because therapy explores past wounds and ingrained patterns, it provides a safe space to work through trauma, mental‑health struggles and emotional regulation . Sessions are confidential, guided by professional ethics, and focus on healing and transformation rather than quick fixes.
Coaching
• Coaching, in contrast, is forward‑looking and goal‑oriented. Core Elements describes couples coaching as “all about intentionality and designing the life you aspire to share,” helping partners rebrand their relationship without delving into past trauma .
• In coaching sessions, the focus is on real‑time patterns, attentiveness and understanding non‑verbal cues; partners co‑create daily rituals and written agreements and learn to co‑regulate and attune to each other’s needs . The aim is to develop new habits and strategies for the future .
• Alicia Hinger’s supervision and coaching page emphasises this distinction: coaching sessions centre on specific goals and a clear path forward, creating a new vision instead of focusing on past trauma . Similarly, Erin O’Toole’s performance and business coaching help athletes, executives and teams build mental resilience, clarify values and align purpose .
In summary, counselling or therapy delves into your history and emotions to heal underlying issues and improve mental health, while coaching is future‑focused and practical—helping you set goals, develop skills and design the life or relationship you want.
